Luan

Luan — Formal Decorative / Ball Dahlia

The Luan is a captivating and wonderfully unpredictable dahlia with a color story unlike anything else in the garden. Its tightly packed blooms sit somewhere between a Formal Decorative and a nearly round Ball form, opening in a striking calico mix of peach, coral, and orange tones over a warm ivory and cream base. The real surprise? Individual blooms often sport a few spontaneous “freak” solid red or dark orange petals scattered throughout — a charming quirk that makes every stem its own unique work of art.

• Bloom Form: Formal Decorative (FD) to nearly round Ball
• Bloom Size: 3–4.5 inches (Small / BB classification)
• Color: Bicolor — calico peach, coral & orange over ivory/cream; occasional “freak” solid red or dark orange petals
• Plant Height: 3.5 to 5 feet — tall & robust

With its warm, glowing palette and playful petal surprises, Luan is a standout for autumn harvest bouquets, mixed warm-toned arrangements, and any floral design where personality and spontaneity make the difference.
